Saturday 18th October Joint meeting of the AMS and Friends of Madagascar, 11.30am to 4.30pm. Morning speaker, Mark Jacobs MD of Aza Fady - An Intergrated Approach: The work of Aza Fady in southeast Madagascar, afternoon speakers Stuart Cable and Justin Moat of the Botanic Gardens at Kew - The vegetation atlas and seed bank of Madagascar. A Malagasy lunch will be served accompanied by the playing of the Valiha and the meeting will be closed with a performance by the Lutheran Malagasy Choir. There will also be a raffle and stands to visit

Wednesday 28th January 2009 Colin Bird, Chief Executive Officer of Jubilee Platinum PLC, will give a talk on “Mining potential in Madagascar”, during which he will discuss how companies go about exploring, tabling the science and cost, and the pitfalls. This will be accompanied by a specific presentation on the company’s experiences in working in various parts of Madagascar.
Wednesday 1st April Stephen Wilkinson, former Director of Akany Avoko childrens home, will give a talk on “38 years of ups and downs in Madagascar”.
Wednesday 17th June AGM Prof. John Mack, Professor of World Art Studies at the University of East Anglia and former Director of the Museum of Mankind, will give a talk on “Malagasy Art”, this will be followed by the AGM.
